Jo lives and works in County Durham, North East England. As well as being a teacher and mum to two small children, she loves nothing more than retreating to the shed in her garden to paint.
With a background in Fine Art, Jo has long held a passion for drawing and mark making. Her current work is inspired by the beautiful coastlines and landscapes of the North. Jo’s mixed media paintings are built up slowly over time, painted and re-painted until complete. Each piece combines many different materials- paint, graphite, varnish, coffee, iron powder, sand and clay are just some of the layers you might uncover.
This accumulation of marks and textures allows Jo to create surfaces which reveal a sense of history and place, hinting at long forgotten memories. Each mark or layer capturing a moment in time, part of the ever-changing story of these vast and dramatic landscapes.
